Aodhán Madden
1954 - 2014
Born in Dublin, Aodhán Madden was a playwright, short-story writer and poet. His screenplay, Night Train, was produced by Subotica Films in 1999, and starred John Hurt and Brenda Blethyn. He had numerous radio plays broadcast on RTE and BBC, including Remembering Mauritania, Searching for Gentlemen Joe and Getting On. He won the OZ Whitehead Drama Award in 1984 for Remember Mauritania and in 1985 for The Private Death of a Queen; he was also awarded the The Herald Tribune Award for Best Play in the Dublin Theatre Festival for The Dosshouse Waltz in 1985. He published his autobiography Fear and Loathing in Dublin in 2009. He was a member of Aosdána.
