The living room of Mrs Farraher's house, an afternoon in early April and the evening of Saturday in Holy Week. The living room at Huggards', the same night.
A poor rural family try to come to terms with the death of their father. One son, a returned emigrant, is convinced that the death was not accidental. Further complications develop as the daughter of the house arrangest to marry the son of the man who may well have been her father's murderer.
